egeniouss provides a robust cloud solution designed to ensure scalability, reliability, and high performance while managing extensive reference data. It also supports offline operation through caching when no internet connection is available. 

To enable the visual localisation service, image- and object-based reference data are stored in a cloud-based database. Our cloud infrastructure complies with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The database is built using established open-source and proprietary solutions, with a design tailored to specific data properties and formats. A two-way interface between the cloud and edge devices facilitates real-time query and response communication. An edge device sends anonymised position queries to the cloud, which then provides the appropriate reference data for the visual localisation task. 

Additionally, the reference database is accessible and manageable through a specific offline mode that retrieves reference data based on defined areas, providing subsets for offline use. A crowdsourcing capability is also implemented to collect feedback on data integrity, adhering to strict data and privacy protection protocols.
